How Many Color Choices Do I Have Now:
What’s New in Cabinetry:
How many do you want? That reply was once reserved for the paint store but not anymore. Cabinet companies are ever so slowly moving away from the soft whites that made up roughly 70% of cabinet sales in the last 10 or 15 years. Don’t worry, from what I can tell Golden Oak is not on its way back.
Cabinet companies like Kith, an industry leader in innovative finishes is offering some great treatments for stains and paints that add a classy texture to a new kitchen without the gaudiness we saw in the early 2000’s. Kith is also adding some innovative new products and accessories making cabinetry more functional.
DDS Design Services is a proud dealer of Kith Cabinetry. Call us to learn more about what’s new in cabinetry and kitchen renovation overall! More about color and other new trends below. Send us an email to [email protected] or request a consultation on our website.
Pro Tip # 1, Buy now! Although industry pricing had leveled off in 2023. A new round of price increases is expected the second half of 2024. With fewer people in the trades, that will likely mean increases in materials and labor.
What, you have more choices than black, white and stainless steel. We are not talking about Mom’s Avocado Green or Harvest Gold choices of the past. If you haven’t noticed there is a revolution going on in the Appliance World. Led by the very innovative BlueStar Appliances your color choices abound. Blue Star Cooking If you are not familiar with BlueStar you should be. It’s the favorite brand of many world class chefs.
Will ordering a custom color match or one of BlueStar’s over 200 standard colors save money? The answer is yes, maybe, maybe not. Here is what I mean, ordering painted appliances can save on appliance panels from the cabinet company and carpentry costs. When it comes to hoods, a color matching metal hood can be less expensive than a wood hood and Blower unit. It also lets us creative types spend more time on those focal points and less time trying to hide 20 to 40 square feet of stainless steel staring us in the face.

Countertops and Large Format Materials:
More innovation is coming at us in countertops and other places you may now consider where tile might be the preferred material.
Pro Tip # 2, Help choosing colors; The good people of Cambria have a tool on their website that tells you what Benjamin Moore colors (up to four) have already been professionally matched to all the Cambria colors Cambria Paint Match Tool can be very helpful when putting together a color pallette for your kitchen.
It’s elemental in a way. Two Quartz manufacturers Cossentino – Silestone and Cambria have found a way to introduce Minerals into some of their new color series adding both texture and sparkle. Talk about putting a gleam in your eye. Check out these new series here:

Both these companies are offering products in different thicknesses too making it easier to fabricate your back splashes and bath/shower surrounds out of their larger format materials. This results in fewer caulk or grout lines to keep clean, plus and a faster installation process.
DDS Design Services Policy:
At DDS Design our policy has always been to offer an initial consultation, in the home at no charge. That is where we discuss the Design and Specification Development and what that will cost. I never ask for a check during that meeting. However, we do mention what the fee will be and what they can expect from it. If the client wants to move forward immediately we will go ahead and take the measurements and pictures we need to move forward. In those cases, we hold the check for three days and double check with the client before proceeding.
